1. End Domestic Sex Trafficking

Every day thousands of children in the United States are forced, manipulated, and lured into some form of commercial sexual exploitation. Violence and threats keep the victims silenced and fearful of escaping or trusting Law Enforcement.

Since the passing of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (T.V.P.A) in 2003, the United States government has spent more than 500 million dollars to spread awareness and assist in the rehabilitation of foreign nationals who have entered the country as victims of human trafficking—but funding and resources are inadequate for American children of the same crime.

6. Save Falcon Beach

Filmed in the cottage community of Winnipeg Beach, the 13-part, one-hour series centres on a group of young people summering in the fictional lakeside resort town of Falcon Beach. It's about summer. It's about freedom. It's about young adults trying to define themselves for their lives ahead.

But it's also about two worlds colliding -- that of the summer cottagers and that of the townies who live and work in Falcon Beach year-round. The show, which returns to Global in fall 2005 after a successful two-hour pilot episode, is a co-production of Toronto-based Insight Productions and Manitoba-based Original Pictures.

Two slightly different versions have been produced: one for Canada and one for the United States, where the series airs on ABC Family and SOAPNet. Changes for the U.S. version include that the local town is in New England and that the Bradshaws are from Boston.

7. Support Mansion House Paintball

Mansion House Paintball field is owned by a local farmer whose farm has been in operation since 1939. This farmer has opened a portion of his property to paintball after seeing that there had been a vast amount of "painting" by the local teens. Teens were shooting at peoples homes and other property.

Mansion House Paintball is a small Paintball field located in Delaware. This field is currently under going up dating in order to make it more appealing to players around the United States.

Recently, someone has submitted a complaint that this field should be closed because paintball is a dangerous sport.

As many Delawareans know there is very little for our children/teens to do in the form of recreation. Mansion House Paintball helps keep children out of trouble and gives them something to do.

Since opening the field the vandalism by paint has dropped drastically and is almost non-existent.

8. Enforce New Jersey Law for troubled teens

I am currently struggling with my 15 year old daughter. It s been a long 2 year struggle that always ends up no where. No matter what I do for my daughter, it always turns out to be a dead end.

We are currently residing in NJ and becuase of the law regarding uncontrolable teens, it is very difficult for me to help her and keep her off the streets where she wanders all night and day when she constantly runs away. I know she is not in good hands out there and I also know she is using drugs and she allows herself to participate in unlawfull activities.

I need my daughter to be safe, but the law here in NJ is not letting me get this done. She is only 15, why allow her to do this to herself and her family. I am not able to get her in any programs becuase the programs here in NJ are not mandatory, if the kid wants to leave, they can leave....why?? that is not right. I know of other states where is not the same as it is here.

Inpatient programs are mandatory in NY and not voluntary like here in NJ. We need to enforce this. It is not fair to parents and especially it is not fair to our children.

Please help me get this done....

9. The Effect of Smoking On Teens

July 17, 2006

Teen smoking rates - which plummeted dramatically over the past eight years - now appear to be leveling off, a trend that concerns many public health experts.

They're worried not just about the diminishing numbers of teens who are choosing to quit, but also about what may be in store for the 1 million plus new smokers who are succumbing to the habit each year.

Cigarette smoking during childhood and adolescence produces significant health problems among young people, including cough and phlegm production, an increase in the number and severity of respiratory illnesses, decreased physical fitness, an unfavorable lipid profile and potential retardation in the rate of lung growth and the level of maximum lung function.

An estimated 440,000 Americans die each year from diseases caused by smoking.

• Each day, nearly 6,000 children under 18 years of age start smoking; of these, nearly 2,000 will become regular smokers. That is almost 800,000 annually.

• It is estimated that at least 4.5 million U.S. adolescents are cigarette smokers.

• Approximately 90 percent of smokers begin smoking before the age of 21.

• If current tobacco use patterns persist, an estimated 6.4 million children will die prematurely from a smoking-related disease.

• According to a 2001 national survey of high school students, the overall prevalence of current cigarette use was 28 percent.

• Nearly graders and 5.5 percent of 8th graders smoke cigarettes daily.

• Adolescents who smoke regularly can have just as hard a time quitting as long-time smokers.

• Of adolescents who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their lifetime, most of them report that they would like to quit, but are not able to do so.

• Cigarette advertisements tend to emphasize youthful vigor, sexual attraction and independence themes, which appeal to teenagers and young adults struggling with these issues.

• Tobacco use in adolescence is associated with a range of health-compromising behaviors, including being involved in fights, carrying weapons, engaging in high-risk sexual behavior and using alcohol and other drugs.

10. Lower the voting age in the USA

May 01, 2006

Please allow teens to vote at a lower age.

The united states should lower the voting age to 16. By that time people have a good political stand point.

It is a proven statistic that 18 is the worst time to vote.By that time teens are to stressed out about moving away to college, graduating highschool, and getting out in the world on their own.

Remember when just 100 years ago we gave the women the right to vote? We thought only white men should vote. Our country runs on a system one person one vote. People do not have to show their maturity.

So whos to say a person going in to vote that is 22 has the maturity level of a 14 year old! In some states people can get married at the age of 13, with a parents permission of course. But whos to say that if a child is givin permission by their parents they could vote.

Wouldn't that be a good idea?

11. Keep Teens Safe at Haven House

February 21, 2006

The Haven House was built due to the countless number of homeless and at risk teens.

It was a one year pilot project with government funding for that time.

It has been run for the last 2 years with funding from the Salvation Army and the District Social Services Administration Board but funding has been discontinued.

They want to send the teens to the Thunder Bay Shelter House where they will be amongst many older adults with drug & alcohol problems and other mental issues. Teens who have used this facility before have been threatened, raped and robbed. Several have been asked to leave for their own safety by the staff of the Shelter House. None of these incidents are ever reported to the authorites and seem to be just swept under the mat.

It is up to the community to see the saftey of the children by keeping the Haven House open and demand we get proper funding to do so.

12. Keeping inhalants out of the hands of children

I'm starting this petition because I just recently lost my friend to dusting (this is when people inhale the spray you use to clean your computers). This causes your lungs and other organs to freeze.

Its so easy for kids to buy this from stores and they don't even ask for IDs. Cold medicines and other harmful items like inhalants are also being sold to them. However, store clerks ask for IDs when you buy cigarettes that will only kill you over time. Inhalants have the power to kill instantly.

KEEP aerosol cans away from children and teens, lock them up or keep them hidden. Inhaling can kill a child or teen instantly, even if its only the first time. Talk to your children about the affects of drugs.

1.5 million people die each year worldwide from smoking. If you sign this petition to take cigarettes out of stores think how many lifes you would be saving.

1 in 5 people that die in the USA die because of smoking. That equals one person every 10 seconds. Every day in the US 3,000 teens become newly addicted to smoking.

Let's make that stop.

16. Teen Skatepark for Lehigh

Lehigh has practically nothing for the youth or teens to do so I would like to see them build a Skatium or Skatepark out here for the teens to use. It would keep more teens out of trouble because it would give them something to do and it would also make jobs for the older teens to help keep them busy which will also keep teens out of trouble!!!

19. 911 Phase II

The most recent tragedy that I have found happened January of 2003. Four boys drown when the rowboat that they were in sunk in frigid 33-degree waters of the Long Island Sound, just off the coast of New York City. The boys'; 12-second 911 call came through at 9:58 p.m. on Friday and begins: "We're on the Long Island Sound in a boat off the coast of the City, We're gonna die." The dispatcher entered the boys' call into a log and alerted her supervisor, but did not have enough specific information to enter the report into the police departments system, and did not notify the Harbor unit of what little information they had. The nearest boat or helicopter could have arrived in about 20 minutes. Department Officials said the boys might have died by then, but a U.S. Coast Guard official, Petty Officer Michelle Krupa, said the teens could have survived at least 30 minutes, and perhaps as long as two hours. Nearly a week after the boys' frantic call, the Coast Guard on Thursday called off the search because it was unlikely the teens would still be alive. The NYPD was continuing the search.
New York City's 911- system doesn't include technology that will allow dispatchers to pin point the origin of cell phone calls, as is the case for most cities. This technology is known as Emergency 911 Phase II, and would allow 911 operators to trace the location of an emergency call from a cell phone. Phase II coupled with improvements to state and county 911 Call Centers, is not required by Federal Regulators until 2005, but is available already in some parts of the country. Phase II can only work when local authorities, traditional phone companies, cell phone companies, and Federal regulators synchronize their efforts to produce a cohesive network.
With this conclusion I urge each and every one of you to sign my petition and have Emergency 911 Phase II made mandatory. By signing this petition, we the public can speak out for the lives that have been lost. Without us they have no voice. The FCC needs to put an end to the fighting. There is no reason people should die senselessly when the technology is already there. Money should not be an issue when a life is concerned.

21. California Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day

California still has one of the highest teen birth rates in the nation. This results in serious implications for the teens, tax payers, their children and the community. 22% of teens giving birth in California had given birth previously. Up to 80% of parenting and pregnant teens drop out of high schooland aquire less skills to be self-sufficient. The majority of teen parents depend on welfare. Unemployment rates are high for teen parents. Medical complications, due to their age, and poor prenatal care are contributing to the high cost of our health care system.

Billions of dollars in State and Federal money is spent on teen pregnancy related issues.
