1. Save Mrs Mohabbat Mahmoudi from Execution

In October 2009 Mrs Mohabbat Mahmoudi, who has endured nine years of prison, was confirmed by Iran’s Supreme Court. She then wrote a letter to Iranian citizens asking for help for her and her family.

Mrs Mahmoudi has endured being in Orumieh prison since 2000 for killing a man who attempted to sexually assault her and she is still at risk of being executed at any time.

According to reports, both wives of the victim have expressed their opposition to the execution, but the brother of the victim has not given his consent and is the one who asked for capital punishment.

Mohabbat Mahmoudi, through a letter to the human rights center of Kurdistan, has described what she has gone through in the past nine years: (thanks to Persian2English):

2. Release human rights lawyer, Nasrin Sotoudeh, in Iran!

Background: (5 September 2010) The International Campaign for Human Right in Iran called for the immediate release of prominent human rights lawyer, Nasrin Sotoudeh, who was arrested at Evin prison on 4 September 2010, and for all charges against her to be dropped.

Sotoudeh is a leading human rights lawyer widely respected for her efforts on behalf of juveniles facing the death penalty and for her defense of prisoners of conscience. Sotoudeh, a mother of two, had earlier been charged with threatening national security. Her office and home were searched on 28 August and her assets frozen.

Nasrin Ghanavi, Sotoudeh’s lawyer, told the Campaign that Sotoudeh was summoned to Evin Prison court on charges of “propaganda against the state,” and “collusion and gathering with the aim of acting against national security.”

Ghanavi accompanied Sotoudeh to the court summon on 4 September but was not permitted to be present during questioning. After her questioning, Sotoudeh was arrested and held in Evin prison.

“This arrest is nothing more than a crude, arbitrary political move to make it more comfortable for the Iranian government to persecute its citizens,” stated Aaron Rhodes, a spokesperson for the Campaign.

A few days before her arrest, Sotoudeh told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran how the authorities were creating bogus tax problems for human rights lawyers as a way to provide pretexts for their prosecution.

“I was referred to the taxation bureau and while there I noticed in addition to my name, they are conducting special investigations into thirty human rights lawyers,” she said. Sotoudeh provided Shirin Ebadi’s tax bill of hundreds of thousands of dollars on her Nobel Peace Prize money as an example, noting as well the irony that human rights cases were all represented on a pro bono basis, and none of the lawyers receive any money from the clients they defend in human rights case. ”The accusation machine is continuing to work fast, further limiting the conditions for human rights defense. The ultimate goal is to shut down all defense of human rights,” she added.

As a member of the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Sotoudeh defended victims of child abuse. She has also defended journalist Issa Saharkhiz and human rights activist Parvin Ardalan. Following her attempt to save the life of Arash Ramanipour, who was hung in January 2010 for crimes he had allegedly committed under the age of 18, she went on record to reveal the illegal process of conducting his execution. At that time, she was threatened that if she publicly spoke on the cases she represented, she would be arrested.

She has also opposed the “Family Protection Bill,” legislation under consideration by the Iranian Majlis (Parliament) that would allow men to marry additional wives without the consent of their first wife. The proposed legislation is opposed by many women’s rights activists and others as encouraging polygamy. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad supports the bill.

The Iranian government has arrested numerous human rights lawyers, including Mohammed Ali Dadkah, Mohammad Oliayifard, Mohammad Seifzadeh, and most recently, Mohammad Mostafei, who was forced to flee the country during his defense of Sakineh Ashtiani, sentenced to be stoned to death.

“Nasrin Sotoudeh needs to be restored to her family and to her vocation, and the Iranian authorities must end their transparently illegal attack against human rights lawyers,” Rhodes said.

Iran: Stoning sentences for a woman and man confirmed

NCRI - The Iranian regime’s supreme court on Sunday confirmed the death sentences by stoning for a man and a woman on charges of adultery.

4. Save Reyhaneh Jabbari From Execution In Iran

Modafe website 31 Aug 2010 News Report- (Human right Lawyer Mr Mostafaei's Official site)

Reyhaneh Jabbari is a girl from Iran. She is now 22 years old and has been in Tehran's Evin prison where the last Wednesday of every month a number of prisoners are hanging. She has spent the best years of her life in the prison and she will. Maybe some other days of her life have left.

She is a curious girl, I would like to introduce her story to everyone to proof that she is not guilty:

In July 2007 she was alone enough inside the coffee shop after a while she went out of the shop then two men who has called Morteza and his friend saw the girl that she was talking with her phone about designing and architecture. Morteza on that time went to her and asked to arrange the time one day to change his house design.

After a while he did not even respond Reyhaneh's reaction, Later on he took his car, picked up his friend and went through to his house, Reyhaneh also justified their manner so, she got together with them. Morteza, to seduce young's Reyhaneh and promised her a Friendship Project Lift, But this friendship from excessive Reyhaneh was imitative and she did not want to be with Morteza just to be supported.

The Contact between Reyhaneh and Morteza was quite normal communication and was a simple friendship without any emotional topic. Thus, Morteza introduced himself as a doctor and wants to change the decoration of the house into the office.

In the afternoon of 7th of July 2007, Morteza made an appointment with Reyhaneh that aimed to change the decoration, Reyhaneh's work had a little distance with Morteza's home, moreover, Morteza asked Reyhaneh's address via text and Reyhaneh gave him her address politely while there were no any romantic messages between them.

Therefore, on the way home, Morteza stopped his car in front of the pharmacy and health supplies are lacking some condoms, then they went into the apartment and Morteza closed the door. After a while, Morteza approached her and wanted to have sex with her, he had already made some drinks containing sleeping drugs. On the other hand, Reyhaneh did not allow him to rape her, therefore he asked her several times to have sex with him but Reyhaneh did not allow and was totally disagree with him because Morteza was much older than her and she did not want to have any emotional or sexual relationship. During this time she got more nervous and anxious.

Thus, she took the knife out of her bag and stabbed him in the back of his right shoulder, she was completely afraid, The apartment door was locked and had no way to ask anybody to help her. At this moment, Morteza's friend entered and Reyhaneh immediately went out, took the elevator and ran out of the building also Morteza's friend spaced too. Morteza hardly ever came out of the department but because of heavily bleeding he died.

After that the interrogator came up to the place and made a report, on that time Reyhaneh said to him that she is innocent and claimed she killed Morteza because of self defence and state that q week ago met Morteza, he wanted to change his department which was located in Mir Emad street he was planning to convert the place to the office.

The evening when I was there I knew that he's got capture of tempt and want to rape me, so because of self defence I stabbed him and escaped.
Therefore, in the meeting of the case the Criminal court Branch 74 whereas the presence of four counsellor Reyhaneh had accused of maximum penalty, the family of victim that are 1 girl and 2 boys stood up and demanded her a 'death sentence'.

Moreover, Reyhaneh had to defence herself, she explained: two and half month before the crime, I saw the doctor and his friend, on that time my phone was ringing, so I picked up the phone and was speaking to one of my friend about the decoration, and design, doctor's friend recognised that I was internal designer of the building.

She added: Mortza’s friends came closer and started to take and got my contact number to ask help to design her private health centre. After a couple of days doctor’s friend’s calls started and thereafter Morteza, himself, called and invited me to visit the flat which was supposed to be converted to private health centre.

Reyhaneh represented, the time was 6:15 that evening when I reached there, when I found Morteza's looking is suspicious, I was so worried and anxious so, I decided to took the knife out and I stabbed on his right shoulder.

She stated that: believe me I just wanted to be safe, that is why I did it because I had no more choice. The same of that day, Reyhaneh was sentenced to retribution breath and supreme of court confirmed that issue.

Now, Reyhaneh’s case is on the procees and every moment is possible for her to be hanged, her crime is self defence and she is not deserve to be die.
Please come on, get together and do not allow her to be hanged, she is now waiting for our help and support.

The Islamic Penal say that every individual people has the Right to protect, and defence their self and on this situation as Reyhaneh is, if the crime happened it would not be criminal responsibility.

5. Free Journalist Ahmad Zeidabadi

Ahmad Zeidabadi is an Iranian journalist and political analyst who was imprisoned following Iran's disputed presidential election in June 2009. He was tortured and beaten violently in prison in order to give forced confessions. He was held in solitary confinement for 35 days after his arrest in a coffin-like cell only 1.5m long.

Mr. Zeidabadi was tried in August 2009, along with more than 40 other journalists and 100 prominent supporters of the country's pro-reform movement, on charges of plotting to overthrow the clerical theocracy with a "soft revolution" and was harshly sentenced to six years in prison,5 years in exile and a lifetime ban on practicing his profession as a journalist. One week after his trial began, Mr. Zeidabadi went on a hunger strike to protest his detention, and was hospitalized for 17 days when he was found unconscious in his cell.

6. Release Shiva Nazar Ahari, human rights activist in Iran!!

*UPDATE 8.23.2010*

Shiva Nazar Ahari, a human rights activist and member of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR), has spent more than 8 months now in prison. She was arrested for the second time in one year on the 20th of December 2009. Previously, she spent 102 days in prison, 33 in solitary confinement up until September 2009.

Shiva Nazar Ahari’s lawyer, Mohammad Sharif, has expressed concern about his client’s upcoming trial considering the heavy charge of moharebeh (enmity with God) in her case. “Shiva Nazar Ahari’s case is being reviewed in the same branch that reviewed Badrolssadat Mofidi’s case. I believe the ruling in Ms. Mofidi’s case to be illegal and therefore am seriously concerned about the court’s potential ruling, considering the fact that my client’s initial charge is moharebeh,” he told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.

According to Sharif, one of his concerns is that even though the presiding judge for Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Courts is a known judge, another judge appeared at Ms. Mofidi’s trial. “My client has been informed of three charges. One of her charges is moharebeh, enmity with God, the subject of Article 186. The other charge is assembly and collusion to commit a crime, the subject of Article 610. Her final charge is propagating against the regime, based on Article 500,” said Sharif. “I have read Shiva Nazar Ahari’s case file. I have written my defense bill and have submitted it,” he added.

Nazar Ahari’s mother, Shahrzad Kariman, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that she is unaware of the charges. Regarding whether her daughter was informed of her charges, Kariman said, “Maybe they have served Dr. Sharif, but I don’t know anything about it. The moharebeh charge was conveyed in June 2009, but we didn’t think it was in this case. When Dr. Sharif read the case for the 23 May court session, we realized that when she had first been arrested in 2009, one of the four charges the judge had written in her case was moharebeh. When she was re-arrested on 20 December 2009, moharebeh was not one of her charges.”

“Shiva is in a state of limbo. Her court date was announced so late. They were going to move the date forward, but nothing has happened yet. The situation in the Women’s Ward is dire. Most days there is no water. The situation with hygiene is terrible. The situation with food is extremely bad,” said Kariman. Quoting the lawyer, she described Nazar Ahari’s imprisonment as illegal. “She has been in this limbo for nine months. According to Dr. Sharif, Shiva has been illegally detained for the past three months, because a temporary detention can only be extended up to six months. Continuing a suspect’s detention beyond six months requires a court ruling which Shiva’s case doesn’t have,” she said.

A documentary of Shiva speaking about her activism:

7. Free Journalist Keyvan Samimi

Keyvan Samimi (62 years old) is an Iranian journalist who was arrested on June the 14th 2009, soon after the presidential election, at the very beginning of the crackdown carried out by Iranian authorities.

He was chief editor of the now banned monthly Nameh ("Letter") and of the website Kharabat. He’s also a Human Rights activist and a member of the National Peace Council, the Committee against Arbitrary Detentions, the Committee in Defense of Citizens’ Rights, and the Right to Education Council. He was a political prisoner during the Shah's regime.

In June 2009, security forces broke into his house in the middle of the night, arrested him and confiscated his personal computer and belongings. According to his lawyer, Nasrin Sotudeh, she visited him for the first time on 10 September 2009 in presence of his interrogator. Mr. Samimi told her that he was beaten twice, and the prison’s doctor certified that the sign of torture was seen on his left leg. Sotudeh also said that she has had no access to his file, but during the visit, Mr. Samimi and his interrogator informed her that he was charged with membership in the illegal groups, including the "National Religious Coalition", the "National Peace Council", and the "Committee to Investigate Arbitrary Detentions" (http://www.iranhumanrights.org/2009/09/report09/).

Since the day of his arrest, Keyvan Samimi spent long time in solitary confinement in Evin prison (Tehran). He was allowed to leave the prison briefly in two occasions: in december 2009, when his daughter got married, and for the Persian New Year, in march 2010. He was finally sent back to prison the morning of April 20.

Keyvan Samimi was at first sentenced to 6 years of jail and to a lifetime ban from any journalistic, social and political activity. The main charges in Keyvan Samimi’s indictment were propagandizing against the regime and conspiring against national security. The indictment also included charges such as participating in post-election protests and issuing statements questioning the validity of the election results.
The Court of Appeal upheld 6 years of imprisonment but reduced the ban from life to 15 years (http://www.rhairan.us/en/?p=5251).

In the summer 2010, Keyvan Samimi was one among the 17 political prisoners in ward 350 of Evin jail who were on hunger strike from 26 July to 10 August 2010, to protest against inhuman prison conditions, after their transfer to solitary confinement. Even if Samimi was the eldest among them, he was also on "dry" hunger strike for almost a week (4-10 August) along with journalist Bahman Ahmadi Amouii and students’ leader Majid Tavakoli. Furthermore, he did't break the strike when his younger fellow inmates did. He has continued his protest until he and all his ‘imprisoned children’ have been transferred from solitary confinement to the general ward of Evin prison.
He ended his hunger strike after 24 days.

8. A Call to Support the Iranian Refugees on Hunger Strike in Athens

Some of Iranian refugees in Athens, Greece waiting their request for asylum from UNHCR, have gone on hunger strike after their meeting with the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs on July 25, 2010. This demonstration is taking place in front of the UNHCR office in Athens. The Deputy Minister told the refugees that due to friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Greece can’t accept the Iranian refugees.

The Iranian refugees, who have fled Iran to escape persecution by the Iranian government, are having a very difficult time in Greece. Not only they don’t benefit from a lawful and safe life for a refugee based on the 1951 Geneva Convention but they are being harassed and intimidated by the Greek authorities. It is believed that the Greek police treats the refugees violently. This is all while, according to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, there are about 3,000 Iranian refugees in the Greek prisons. Their economic situation of the Iranian refugees is as bad as their legal condition.

One of the demonstrators by the name of Hamid Sadeghi has sewn his lips in protest to this horrific situation. Today marks the 21st day of the strike. The health condition of Hamid Sadeghi and Vahid Farsh Baaf is dangerously deteriorating. On August 13, the Greek police attacked their tents they had set up outside of UNHCR office and both Hamid and Vahid were arrested. They were freed later but the situation has not improved.

We demand for UNHCR to process their application and grant them asylum as soon as possible. We want the UNHCR to facilitate their transfer to another refugee host country if there is no legal way for processing their request in Greece. Further, we hold the office of UNHCR responsible if any harm comes to the refugees and for the horrific conditions they are subjected to in Greece.
This situation can not continue.

12. Drop all charges & Release Zia Nabavi!

*UPDATE!!!! JULY 2ND 2010*

ZIA NABAVI IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION IN HOSPITAL AFTER SUFFERING A NERVOUS BREAK DOWN IN PRISON. PLEASE SIGN & READ FURTHER: http://persian2english.com/?p=12426

--------------------------------------------

Drop all charges & Release Zia Nabavi! A masters student who has been subjected to much torture in prison for wanting right to education!!!!!

Seyyed Ziaoldin Nabavi (Zia Nabavi) was arrested on June 15, 2009 in the course of the events that followed the Presidential election. Since then he has been imprisoned incessantly. He initially was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and 74 lashes, which was later reduced in appellate courts to 10 years imprisonment for one remaining false charge of being in connection with MKO (Mujahedin). Nabavi wants his case to be immediately reviewed, saying he is NOT a part of MKO and was only defending the right to education for *starred students (students banned from universities for speaking out) at Babol University.

Nabavi states: "Believe me, if I am sentenced to 10 years in prison for my activities through a legal & legitimate trial, I will not protest, contingent on that I will be convicted on my true identity as a student activist and a defender of the right to education, and not on fake titles such as opponent, Mohareb, and collaborator with the MKO."

Excerpt of a letter from Zia Nabavi to Sadegh Larijani,

"Honourable Head of Judiciary,

I have already received the verdict of the Appeals Court as I write you this letter. To my astonishment, I have been cleared of all charges except for Moharabeh. Based on the most irrelevant accusations, I was sentenced to ten years in prison to be served in exile in the town of Izeh. I am stating clearly that my activities and my train of thought are so disproportionately different from the accusation against me and the sentence give to me that [I believe] the overall situation surpasses a tragedy. Rather, it resembles a joke.

1- It is clear that my charges were connected to my activities with the Council to Defend the Right to Education, because that was the basis of my interrogation. If we accept the verdict given by the Lower Court and the Appeals Court on my Moharebeh charge, then we can conclude that the charge against me is “enmity against God through defending the right to education.” Does the judiciary system really regard defending the right to education equivalent to a fight against the Islamic establishment?

2-Section 189 of the Islamic Criminal Code states that “Moharebeh and sedition on Earth” are proven through the following methods: a) By confessing once, contingent on that the confessor is mature and of sane mind and that the confession is made under free will b) Through the testimony of two fair men.

Based on the report by the Ministry of Intelligence and based on the indictment, I never confessed to the charge. Also, the testimony of two wise[sic] men is not present in the case. How can you prove my charge of Moharebeh? Is finding me guilty not against the text of the law?

3-Throughout the interrogations, I was under pressure to confess that [the act of] defending the right to education was proposed by the “MKO”. Of course, I never accepted this unjust connection."
....
8. I along with other friends who have been banned from education pursued our case through legal channels for nearly one year in order to return to university. If the claims of the Ministry of Intelligence regarding our suspicious contacts and ties [to the opposition] were true, why was there no form of disciplinary action taken against us before the election? Doesn’t the arrest of nine students the day after the election who were banned from education indicate a kind of revenge on banned students by taking advantage from the news and media vacuum created during that period?

9. I have been a constantly active student during my six years of education and undoubtedly one of the student activists of Babol University. During the Presidential election, I was actively involved in the electoral campaign of one of the reformist candidates. All the activities were within the boundaries of the constitution. Now, how is it that overnight and after the election, I turned into a Mohareb and an opponent?"

Full translation here: http://persian2english.com/?p=11855

Zia Nabavi is asking for only the basic right to education and for a fair trial to be given to him for the remaining charges against him. (No one should even be prosecuted against for wanting to go to college!)

13. Reinstate visitation rights for all political prisoners in Iran

Visitation Rights Revoked for All Political Prisoners in Iran:

June 13, 2010

The government of Iran continues to mount pressure on its citizens. As per a recent order by Tehran’s prosecutor, until further notice, all political prisoners will no longer be allowed personal, face-to-face visitation with family members. Moving forward they will be allowed to meet in cabins that permit phone conversations only. Regular prisoners are still able to meet with their families once a month. It is not clear when the visitation ban will be lifted.

As of this week, families of political prisoners will only be allowed personal visitation with their loved ones through special permission by the prosecutor’s office. Even if the families are successful in obtaining this special permission, children, sisters, and brothers of political prisoners no longer have visitation rights.

It has been reported that these new measures are designed to prevent the dissemination of statements and writings by political prisoners to the outside world.

16. Save Father Mohsen Daneshpour and Son Ahmad Daneshpour from Execution!

Mohsen Daneshpour and his son Ahmad Daneshpour have had their death sentences upheld by the Appeal Court on 15th May 2010. This was done after an unfair trial, where weak evidence was presented.

Mohsen and Ahmad were arrested with Ahmad's mother after the Ashura protests. They did not receive independent legal representation, nor were their family members allowed to visit them during their prosecution. Their family did not even receive notification of the Court Hearing OR death sentence.

They are charged with "deliberate cooperation with MKO," "gathering and colluding against national security," and "propaganda against the regime and in the interest of enemies." The evidence supporting these charges included a trip by the parents to Iraq to visit another son, who is a member of MKO, sending videos and pictures to MKO, and participating in demonstrations. None of these charges are either reasonable or punishable by death.

Renowned Human Rights Lawyer Mohammad Sharif, who has been able to successfully defend others sentenced to death under such circumstances, was not able to defend Mohsen's and Ahmad's cases as they were sent to the Appeals Court before he was allowed to prepare them.

Human Rights sources such as International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran strongly condemns the issuance of disproportiate sentences like Mohsen's and Ahmad's which are based on unfounded charges and result in executions.

The barbaric violations of human rights by the Iranian regime have resulted in the devastation of another whole family with these death sentences.

18. Stop the execution of Naser Abdolhosseini in Iran!

PETITION UPDATE MADE 5/20/2010

GREAT NEWS THAT THE DEATH SENTENCE HAS BEEN OVERTURNED, HIS LIFE IS SAFE FOR NOW. HOWEVER NOW NASER HAS REDUCED SENTENCE OF 12 YEARS FOR DOING NOTHING WRONG. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SIGN AGAINST HIS IMPRISONMENT!

----------------------------------
Original:

Naser Abdolhosseini is 22 years old and, according to his family, does not have a political history. He comes from a working class family from southern Tehran and was self employed prior to his arrest. On Saturday- Oct 10, 2009, the public relations office of the Tehran justice department announced that Abdolhosseini has been sentenced to death.

In an interview with his brothers Mojtaba and Nader, they say their brother was deceived into making false confessions.

Mojtaba said: "My brother was told that if he made [false] televised confessions, his sentence would be reduced. They told him televised confessions would reduce his prison term and he would be released before the end of his term. They deceived him into making televised confessions, but contrary to what he was promised, they sentenced him to death. They took advantage of Naser and played with his life."

"The phone conversation recording that was introduced as evidence during the hearing is a forged tape. My brother never had a phone conversation or contact with the person (Zohreh) on the recording. This is not true at all. In the recording that was broadcasted by the IRIB, Zohreh asks my brother to cause arson by using a Molotov cocktail. My brother can’t even pronounce the word Molotov cocktail. During the hearing he mispronounced the word. Tell me how could have he been involved in doing such things?"

Naser Abdolhosseini has been accused of having ties to the Mojahedin-e-Khalgh organization (MKO), something that both his brothers deny.

"My brother was arrested on June 26th. We used to work together as salesmen. Our job was to sell auto parts in other cities. Naser has no history of political activity. He had never been arrested before.”

Nader, Naser’s other brother added:

“When they arrested my brother they did not show us any incriminating evidence. They did not have any evidence against him and could not find any when they searched the house. My brother does not even have a high school diploma. He does not own a computer or an email address. How could he have sent information outside Iran as it is alleged? My brother comes from a working class family in southern Tehran. Nobody in our family or among our relatives has ever been involved in politics.”

Naser Abdolhosseini, who was tried for taking part in post election riots, has been found guilty of the charge and was sentenced to death. However, he was not in Tehran at the time of the protests and was doing his job in another city. His brother, Nader, talked about his brother’s involvement in the post election protests:

“The allegations that my brother took part in the protest are completely unfounded. Prior to his arrest on June 26th, he had been doing his job as an auto parts salesman in the southern city of Bushehr. The night they came to arrest him, he had just returned from his business trip and was so tired that he had not even changed.”

The two brothers have a lot of objections to the trial and the way the court appointed lawyer handled their brother’s case. Mojtaba said:

“During the trial the court appointed lawyer did not defend my brother. He has only contacted my brother twice and has done nothing for his case."

Mohammad-Amin Valian, 20 years old, who is a student at the University of Dagham and a member of the Student Muslim Council in Iran, has been charged with “Moharebeh” (acts against God) and has been sentenced to death for participating street protests on Dec 27, 2009 along with the rest of the Iranian people asking for freedom and human rights.

According to the international UN Human Rights Charter, which the Iran government is a ratified state party since 23 March 1976, every person has the right to voice their thoughts, opinions, beliefs, and religion without persecution by its government. By sentencing Mohammad Valian, the government of Iran is abusing its power over another life, persecuting, and breaking the international human rights laws.

Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.”

Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
“No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

We condemn these horrible sentences by the Iranian government and ask for the United Nations to recognize that these laws have been broken.

Dear friends,

We are a number of residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq whose parents or relatives have been arrested by the clerical regime ruling Iran and are at the risk of being executed.

Camp Ashraf is home to 3,400 Iranian dissidents living in Iraq who have dedicated their lives to establishing freedom and democracy in Iran.

The relatives of Ashraf residents have been arrested on charges of having contacts with their loved ones in Ashraf or having visited Camp Ashraf in the past.

In order to make the Iranian regime stop its arbitrary arrests and executions, we appeal to you to sign this petition addressed to UN Secretary General. We also urge you to ask your friends, relatives and colleagues to sign this petition.

Gratefully,
A number of Ashraf residents

23. Remove Mehdi Amir Abu Taleb, IRI French Ambassador

Remove Mehdi Amir Abu Taleb, IRI French Ambassador violent to peaceful protesters during demonstration on 31st Janury 2010

On January 31, 2010 the Islamic Republic’s Embassy in France held a banquet commemorating the day that Ayatollah Khomeini left France for Iran from Neuphle-le- Chateau to reign over 30 years of a violent, fascist regime in Iran which its people are trying to remove

On the street, in front of the meeting place, Iranian protesters peacefully held signs and chanted slogans such as, “Death to Dictator,” and “Free the political prisoners.”

When the bus of the ambassador arrived the protesters increased their chanting. The French police had taken positions amongst the protesters to avoid any incidents. The Ambassador, Mehdi Amir Abu Taleb, who took the Paris post in September of last year, angered by the slogans, thinking that he is in Iran where you can meet peaceful protesters with violence, attacked one of the protesters.

The police interfered and the angry Ambassador punched the police officer trying to hold him in the chest. That act was enough to bring down the wrath of the police who had to restrain his “Excellency” and were about to handcuff him when the personnel of the Embassy interceded and informed the police that it was the Ambassador that they were holding and that he enjoyed diplomatic immunity.

26. Supporting Independent Sovereignity of the State of Egypt

Iran has been targeting Egyptian Sovereignty during the 2000s and still is doing so, to create Chaos in the Middle Eastern region.

It does so, using Islamist forces (Hisbullah and Hamas), to create terror in the region, to enforce a role over all.

It does this all, by falsifying deep grounded facts of the Arab - Israeli conflict to hinder peace!

Declaration by Dr. Shirin Ebadi

I hereby declare that my sister Dr. Noushin Ebadi who is a Medical lecturer at Azad University of Tehran was detained by four officers from the counter-intelligence agency of Islamic Republic of Iran.

She was arrested at 9 pm today (28/12/2009) at her home in Tehran. At present, we have no information of her whereabouts.

During the past two months, my sister had been contacted by the elements within the government and told in no uncertain terms to contact me and persuade me to cease my activities as a human rights advocate. It was strongly suggested that she should leave her apartment which is within the same block as my apartment in Tehran. She was told that her failure to cooperate with them will result in her arrest. I initially did not take this seriously, but I’m sad and upset to see that this was not an empty threat.

It is important to note that my sister is not politically active nor is she a member of any human right organisation. Her only crime seems to be that she is my sister and her arrest is nothing less than a political blackmail and attempted pressure. This is another method employed by the authorities in Iran to stop my activities.

I hereby draw the attention of the Iranian judiciary to this unlawful and wrongful arrest of a member of my family for political gain by the government of Iran and I call for immediate release of my sister.

Iran is currently in turmoil and these unlawful and illegal actions will only have negative effect. What is needed in Iran is peaceful dialogue and tolerance.

29. Support the imprisoned elected Kurdish politicians and human rights activists in Turkey!

Yüksel Baran, Leyla Güven, Abdullah Demirbaş, Firat Anli and Yurdusev Özsökmenler are some of the 80 democratically elected mayors and politicians who are now detained on charges of terrorism. Not only the elected politicians were arrested but also Muharrem Erbey, Chairman of the respected human rights organization IHD in Diyarbakir, and the organization's office was searched by the police. This is the fourth major crackdown on Kurdish politicians since DTP won a landslide victory in the local elections in March 2009.

The arrested politicians belong to those who worked hardest for local democracy in their communities. They have worked for women's rights, started women's centers and in spite of constant harassment from the Turkish state they have tried to build a functioning infrastructure in their municipalities.

As municipal politicians we are deeply outraged over the treatment of the elected politicians. Unfortunately, the Turkish state wants to crush the democracy that they are strenuously trying to build up in the Kurdish municipalities. It is time for local politicians in Sweden and politicians throughout Europe to declare that this is not acceptable. Turkey has signed the UN Declaration on Human Rights and as a signing country you are pledged to follow the declaration. Respect for national minorities and the right to freedom of expression is a prerequisite for membership in the European Union and Turkey have agreed to negotiate for membership on this basis.

If Turkey is to have any credibility left as a modern country towards democracy, they must have the imprisoned elected politicians and human rights activists immediately released.
